Background of the Study
Financial management is crucial for the efficient operation of healthcare institutions. However, financial mismanagement—such as fraud, embezzlement, misallocation of funds, and lack of transparency—has been a major challenge in Nigeria’s healthcare sector. These issues lead to inadequate medical supplies, poorly maintained facilities, and unpaid salaries, ultimately affecting the quality of service delivery.
Kano State, one of Nigeria’s most populous states, has faced recurrent cases of financial mismanagement in the health sector. Reports of misallocated budgets, corruption, and inefficient spending have raised concerns about the impact of financial mismanagement on healthcare service delivery. This study aims to examine how financial mismanagement affects healthcare services in Kano State, identifying key challenges and proposing strategies for improvement.
Statement of the Problem
Despite significant government allocations to the healthcare sector, Kano State continues to experience poor healthcare service delivery. Mismanagement of funds, including corruption and poor financial planning, has led to substandard medical facilities, shortages of essential drugs, and inadequate staff remuneration.
If financial mismanagement remains unaddressed, healthcare service delivery in Kano State will continue to deteriorate, affecting public health outcomes. This study seeks to investigate the extent of financial mismanagement and its impact on healthcare quality.

Scope and Limitations of the Study
This study will focus on financial mismanagement in Kano State’s healthcare sector, examining its impact on service delivery. Data will be collected from healthcare administrators, government agencies, and financial records. Limitations may include difficulties in accessing financial data and reluctance of officials to disclose information.
